Food Safety

Researchers at MSU study the biochemical and physical properties of food to assure its safety and develop policies and procedures to help ensure the world’s food supply. Engaging faculty, students, and industry partners in innovative programs around the world, MSU is a center for excellence in global agrifood systems development, value chains for food and agricultural exports, international biotechnology and biosafety, sustainable management systems, and international extension programs.

Food Safety

MSU researchers study the biochemical and physical properties of foods to determine their influence on quality and safety. Researchers are developing efficient, effective sensors that can detect agents that affect human and animal health, including foodborne disease agents and their toxins. Food safety epidemiologists cover all aspects of foodborne disease from farm to table, including identifying when and where pathogenic bacteria infect food animals. Read more

Food Security in Africa

Several faculty teams focus on research related to food security, food policy, and general agricultural development in Africa. Funding is provided primarily by the U.S. Agency for International Development. Read more

International Agriculture

The MSU Institute of International Agriculture houses externally funded international development projects that focus on food, agriculture, and natural resources in India, Indonesia, Rwanda, and other developing nations. MSU’s Land Policy Institute also provides development assistance, outreach, and applied research support to other countries. Read more
